How I work
Getting Started
The first step taken at the beginning of any marketing project is the briefing. This is where I find out what your objectives are. How will we measure success? It is crucial that we agree on that at the outset.
I’ll ask all sorts of questions to gain a better understanding of your business. I’ll probably ask you even more questions after the meeting. I will then explain to you how I will work with you. I believe that communication willmake or break any project. It is essential that we determine how best to communicate and how often.
Gathering Information
It is most likely that I’ll need to dig a little deeper. I may need to speak to other members of our organisation, and perhaps your customers. Insight is critical. Research and interviewing best describes this stage.
The Plan
Once I’ve gathered what I need, I’ll put forward a plan. Your input here is critical. This is your plan and it needs to move forward how you think is best. You’re that one that knows your business, I know marketing. If we pull this together effectively, the plan can not fail.
Engagement
Once we agree on the plan, I will move things forward, with a keen eye on delivering the results we agreed upon. I may utilise your internal resources or perhaps a resource that I recommend. Perhaps it is a project where I do all of the work. Whatever the scenario, engaging your team is critical at this point. For the plan to succeed, there needs to be awareness, understanding and buy in.
Deployment
We are up and running at this stage. This bit is usually all about Promotion, Promotion Promotion. But this may depend on what your project is. Sometimes, things are a secret mission… for a while.
Results
I believe in accountable marketing. We agreed on some desired results at the beginning of the process. We will have set things up to measure our results, wherever possible. And we’ll take action to keep on track, or make corrections to get the results we want.
Effective communication is essential. You can be involved every step of the way, if you want to be. I provide work updates, at a frequency that you desire, so you can see how my time has been spent and the result or output from that time. I do believe that effective communication will make or break a project. I definitely do not work in isolation and I don’t want to surprise you at any stage… unless of course it is a good surprise.
