The Olympic Torch on Ipswich Road, Colchester
This morning we all gathered along Ipswich Road to see the Olympic Torch Relay. At 6.45, we were some of the first to arrive. We waited in anticipation… to see a torch, to come close to an Olympic torch. We may never get this close again.
By 7.15am, Ipswich Road, Colchester was packed. The traffic heading out of town came to a halt. Drivers turned their engines off and waited, just like the rest of us. You could feel the excitement mount as the police motorbikes passed by. You could here children and adults shout “The torch is coming!”
First it was the Olympic coaches,
Then finally, the Olympic Torch. You could see the flame and the heat waves from it, above the crowd, as it approached.
They changed torch bearers just beyond us, so we could just see the flame switched off on one torch and ignited on another. Then the toarch bearer came and boarded the coach, in front of us. Can anyone tell me this person’s name. I would have liked to know more about the individuals who were chosen to take the torch through Colchester.
All in all, this was a great way to start the day!
